The Tampa Bay Youth & Young Adult Mass Choir: Our Story

The Tampa Bay Youth & Young Adult Mass Choir was officially established on June 12, 2014 by Larenz Johnson, Jonathan Hudson, Dyleyia Brown, and Nandi Youngblood. After deliberation. the choir was adopted by Mr. Carlton Brown and became the Tampa Bay Youth & Young Adult Mass Choir of The Gospel Music Workshop of America. The choir had its first major event on August 4th, 2014 entitled "iPraise". The event was held at The New Mt. Zion MB Church of Tampa. The choir debuted their vocal styling to a packed out audience of over 400 people singing, "We Worship" and "Matchless Name". Following the event the choir endured several attacks and became defunct for over a year. However, under daunting circumstances the choir was revived on September 14th, 2016 at the Pleasant Chapel AME Church; under the leadership of Minister Larenz Johnson. The choir boasts three powerful sections (Soprano, Alto, and Tenor); has an executive and music leadership team; and has several original songs written by Larenz Johnson, Chris Holloway, Devin Hagans, and Armel Light (all members of the choir). The choir introduced their first set of originals at the 2nd Annual iPraise Concert. Original songs included were: Bless His Name, Faith, and God Will Open Doors. The choir has faced many challenges, however, they are still going and growing in the name of Jesus Christ.
